In other words, when I interact with clients via email and phone (I never have face to face contact), I do so as Sally Smith and don’t use my actual name. Offering to meet in person when I’ll be in the interviewer’s city during our phone interview. You can make them aware that you’ll actually be in their city on that day and would be glad to meet in person if they’d like to, but be aware that they still may prefer to do it by phone.

Combining an interview and a trip, and how long employers can wait. I’d ideally like to work in California, which is tough because I currently live and go to school in Boston. Thus far, I’ve been up-front with the companies that I’m interviewing with — I finish in June and probably won’t be able to work until August because I need to take my boards and move across the country. Because of that, don’t get too wed to interviewing there in June.

I’m in Boston, but many of my colleagues work out of our Boston office. For what it’s worth, everybody in the Boston office has probably left for the day and will not see any communication from me until tomorrow. Employer requires internal interviews to be done on unpaid time. At our department’s staff meeting recently, we were informed that all internal interviews were going to be off-the-clock as a cost savings measure.
