How Much Do Job Titles Really Matter?

Evil HR Lady

BY SUZANNE LUCAS SEPTEMBER 18, 2018. You can call me anything, just don’t call me late for dinner.”. This old dad joke demonstrates a laid-back attitude towards life, one which I applaud. After all, very few people say my name correctly. (It’s It’s Suzanne, not Susan, thank you!). But, what about job titles? Can we call service employees anything? Does it matter whether someone is a “temperature control expert” or a “HVAC technician” as long as the pay and job duties are the same?

It’s four answers to four questions. Here we go…. My coworker asked me to pose topless for an “anatomy textbook” I work part-time in a small sales office of about 10 people. About a month ago, one of my coworkers approached me about doing a project for his graduate program at a local university. We talked about next steps, and she indicated that if my resume was approved by another member of the firm, I’d get an interview. She said the interviews were on Thursday and Friday, and asked about my availability. I’d previously booked non-refundable (so non-flexible) travel with a friend for Friday, so I told the recruiter I’d be out of town on Friday and only able to interview Thursday.

Essential Basics of Cash Flow Management

Water Cooler Wisdom

Cash-flow management involves close monitoring of cash flow, which is the amount of cash being transferred into and out of a business.    If your organization has positive cash flow, it means that the amount of  cash  available at the beginning of a period (opening balance) is less than the amount at the end of that period (closing balance). In order to remain in business over an extended period of time, an organization must maintain positive cash flow.

my team doesn’t ask managers to hang out with them

Ask A Manager

A reader writes: I have a small tight-knit team of eight people. The people that I’ve hired in the last two years socialize together quite a bit, which is great. The downside is they don’t invite me or the other managers; the junior members will hang out together and not invite the managers. The disappointing part of this is that this team has historically been very tight and (we hoped) didn’t feel hierarchical. As we hire more people, I would prefer that the environment feel inclusive.

I’m an American living in Europe, in a country where nude baths, nude saunas, etc. are normal. So normal, in fact, that my company has a yearly trip to one. On principle, I have no problem with this, but I have nipple piercings, and I’m worried that they’ll be noticed/commented on.
