interviewer wants to know my current salary (with an update already included!)

Ask a Manager

In September I received this letter: I’ve interviewed with a great company that I am very interested in. At my first phone interview, they told me the salary range — about 30%-50% above what I’m paid now. I knew my salary at my current company was low, and so I was very excited to talk to a company that wasn’t asking my current salary. Today, they asked for my “current compensation and bonus payout history.

So I submitted my resume and cover letter and heard back within a day with an invitation to have a preliminary phone interview. The HR rep also requested that I give my salary history and a potential range for their position. Recruiter emailed me a dozen annoying interview questions to complete. I had a phone screen with a large corporation for a program manager role. After a 10 minute conversation, the recruiter emailed me over a dozen interview questions that he asked me to complete, including: • Share with me some of your areas of improvements or strengths. Salary history and/or expectations. • Interview questions that don’t match my experience.

my assistant is constantly gazing in the mirror, lying to employers about salary, and more

Ask a Manager

Speaker advised lying to employers about salary. She told me a speaker advised women to quote their previous salary at $10,000 more than what they were actually paid when negotiating a salary because future employers can’t prove you lied. Employers routinely ask for W2s, pay stubs, and other proof of salary — routinely. And when employers find out that you lied about salary (or whatever else), they will revoke the job offer.

Have you ever gotten a job from a job fair?

Ask A Manager

The only time that I got an interview with, and then later a job offer from a company that I met at the job fair, when the guy called me to invite me to an interview and told me that he had gotten my resume from the fair, I sat there wondering if he received it from when I met them 1 year ago or 3? After doing some research on him online I decided to proceed with interviewing. I was called in for an interview a few days later for a paid marketing internship.
