How do I determine my rate for freelance work for my current employer after I leave? I gave close to four weeks notice at my nonprofit full-time job to coincide with the end of our fiscal year (also the date our employment contracts are up each year). I suggested looking at the amount listed on my contract as the “total compensation value” of my position (which includes the health insurance cost) and prorating that but was told that nobody does that.

What you did is perfectly fine, as long as (a) you really do come back to the question on your own, and (b) you don’t do this when the question is one you should have been prepared for (like questions about why you’d excel in the role or what you’re looking for in your next job). After a short while, one of my colleagues mentioned that she wanted something to calculate volumes and pricing for her surveys to make her job easier. Am I obliged to leave the spreadsheets on the company common files, or can I delete them as I would like to use these towards a portfolio to offer other companies on a freelance basis?
