Massachusetts Loses Mind: Passes Law Outlawing Employers Asking For Salary History.

The HR Capitalist

Massachusetts has lost its mind. Here's a quick rundown from Forbes : "Massachusetts has just passed the most comprehensive law regarding the subject of equal pay. In a prime example of lawmakers not understanding business, the state has outlawed employers from asking interviewees about their salary history.

“Work in New Jersey; employer in Massachusetts. Which state’s lawyers can help me?”

that is based in Massachusetts. If I need a lawyer, how do I determine if they should be from Massachusetts or New Jersey? . And – hold onto your seat – the issues that exist in your settlement negotiations may be those of (a) New Jersey law, AND (b) Massachusetts law, AND (c) federal law, all at the same time. Closing the Gap: Massachusetts Bans Screening Candidates Based on Salary

Massachusetts businesses have two years to comply with a new equal pay law passed by the state legislature on August 1st. ” Too, it allays fears that the equal pay law would make it difficult to have a merit or seniority-based pay scale — Massachusetts lawmakers aren’t interested in flattening pay scales, but rather in equalizing opportunities and ferreting out systemic inequalities; the subtler ways that the wage gap is perpetuated.

“How long do employers have to retain personnel records to make them available to ex-employees in Massachusetts?”

Sklover Working Wisdom

This quote was sent to us by Carmel of Brockton, Massachusetts. “When someone tells me ‘no’ it doesn’t mean I can’t do it. It simply means I can’t do it with them.” ” – Karen E. Quinones. I can attest to having this experience maybe 100 times in my life.

This quote was offered to us by Ellyn of Lowell, Massachusetts. “Hope is patience with the lamp lit.” ” – Tertullian. I love the simplicity of this quote, as well as its applicability to the workplace. Patience is truly a virtue, and needs to be practiced at work. That’s for sure. But hope, as a virtue, is a step higher: it is practicing patience with a positive attitude, with the flame in your heart, the light in your soul and. your “lamp lit.”

Bear in Mind The Difference in State Laws If You Drive For Work

Jobacle

Other ‘no fault’ states include Florida, Kansas, Kentucky, Massachusetts, New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania – to name just a few. Around 115 million vehicles hit the road every day in the U.S, and the vast majority of these do so for work-related reasons. You don’t necessarily have to be a truck driver to rack up a few miles every day.

“Are employers required to reimburse internet expenses for home-based employees?”

Sklover Working Wisdom

Ipswich, Massachusetts. Your state – Massachusetts – takes a much more limited approach to employer-mandated reimbursements. For example, Massachusetts labor regulations require reimbursement to employees of “all transportation expenses” when the employer requires the employee to travel during the work day. In addition, Massachusetts regulations require most employers to reimburse employees’ costs for dry-cleaning of required workplace uniforms.

Protesters in Boston are setting off fireworks all night every night. And it’s working.

Penelope Trunk

It’s against the law to have fireworks in Massachusetts. Right after George Floyd was killed, there were fireworks in my neighborhood. All night long. I live in Roxbury, on a sliver of Boston between two gang territories. So I assumed the noise was gunshots. But a few days later, fireworks actually lit up the sky. At 1am. By the end of May, the fireworks out of our apartment window were amazing. Every night. High quality.
