SeaWorld recently admitted that it sent out people on its payroll to infiltrate People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, better known as PETA. PETA and SeaWorld have been in a long-running battle with PETA claiming that SeaWorld is cruel to animals and SeaWorld claiming it isn’t. According to Mashable, SeaWorld Entertainment CEO Joel Manby said that he would stop the practice, but that the company had done it to ensure the safety of its guests and employees.

Understand, this is a small business consisting of only eight other employees and the issue may be victim to this fact. And questions about tax withholdings--well, those should go to payroll. The IRS has their rules, payroll has theirs and the Evil HR Lady does not want to get in the middle. Fighting the IRS and payroll is well, a classic blunder. If you get paid twice a month (usually the 15th/30th of each month), you get 24 pay checks a year. If you get paid every other week (usually Fridays), you get 26 pay checks a year.

It's a good thing I took calculus in high school, because it's been extremely helpful in payroll problems. My problem is more of a math problem, I think. I have an employee on salary that has exceeded the number of vacation days he is allowed. How do I deduct his pay for this unpaid vacation time? I just can't grasp how to figure this out.

I AM IN CHARGE OF PAYROLL AT AN OILFIELD COMPANY, WHEN I GET ALL MY INFO READY, THE CHECKS ARE REMOTED TO MY PRINTER. But, this question offered me a chance to use a whole new disclaimer: I am not in payroll. I have never been in payroll. Pick up the phone and call your corporate payroll department. So, call payroll and ask them ON VACATION CHECKS MY CORP.

I suppose I'm supposed to be horrified that a big, mean, evil empire like Microsoft would ask for erroneously paid money back. I'm not. Let's reverse the situation. Suppose Microsoft underpaid severance (which, in actuality, they did to some people) and that person wrote a letter asking them to please pay up.

In fact, a friend who is a payroll manager at a large company said she finds that many professional level people from certain countries also don't use bank accounts, or at least not direct deposit. We already run criminal record, adult maltreatment and child abuse registry checks, but what about credit checks?
