my boss makes me wear her clothes, eat her food, and say I’m grateful for my job

When I received my tax documents, I got a 1099 instead of a W-2. As for her treating you as a 1099 contractor rather than an employee (and thus not paying your payroll taxes ), that’s illegal. And really unfair to you, since it means you’re now responsible for the payroll taxes and Social Security she should have been been paying on your behalf. (By Can we redo this so the tax forms are correct and the company’s share of my payroll taxes are taken care to?”

are angry customers just part of life, my company overpaid me, and more

HR investigated on my prompting and found out my position had been coded in payroll incorrectly, leading me to get extra pay for a shift differential even though I was working a standard shift. He said to get it corrected, so I dutifully contacted payroll, HR, and timekeeping.

I promised to stay for a year but want to leave now, using my own personal computer at work, and more

The problem is that I’m W-2 and when I got to work the first day, there wasn’t a computer at my desk. As a W-2, doesn’t my employer need to provide the tools for me to perform my work? Basically, that rule lets employers structure their relationships with employees however they want (more or less); it’s really about ensuring that they don’t treat people as contractors (by not paying payroll taxes) when they shouldn’t be.
