A century ago, in terms of disease and health issues, the world was a scary place. On any given day, one could be exposed to diseases like small pox, polio, measles or mumps; even in hospitals. Cigarettes were fashionable and were even touted as being good for you. There was little knowledge of infection control or nutrition at all. We’ve come a long way since then, largely thanks to the efforts of public health professionals.
